Firstly I apologize for the bad pun. ( which you will not yet get...)
Secondly, my apologies for lack of posts. I have been getting sorted at uni, and while having time, I have been focusing on my work ( which there has been lots of...) / playing video games / getting drunk. All of which are fun to do! Well, except the work. It's okay.
Now to get back to posting, I thought I would start with a new album that I picked up recently, the album being... *Drumroll*
Arctic Monkey's " AM " ( Music Review 4/101)
It's a laid back journey through the Arctic Monkey music landscape ( Metaphors! :D ) going from chilled inide rock to slightly heavier tones throughout.
This album leads down a slightly different path from Arctic Monkey's last album, with a more rock based undertone to the music, while at the same time still keeping with AM's new(ish) chilled out style. I like the random lyrics, rocky guitars and rolling songs, such as "Why Do You Only Call Me When Your High" and " Knee Socks".
However, I still personally prefer AM's old music. This does not mean I don't not love the new album, quite the opposite in fact, but I feel that while their music has gained a certain maturity in a sense, it has also lost something. Gone are the bouncy indie-rock classics of old, which have been replaced by something alltogether different.
In a way however, it makes sense. The times have changed, and AM has changed with them. This will not however, stop me hoping for a resurgence of the old AM pun-based hard hitting, classic songs that we know and love, without, hopefully, losing any of the new feel of the band.
After all the jumble of words above, I am giving AM's new album a 7/10 . If you like their new stuff, definitely get it. If your not too keen, I'd give a few songs a try, but it probably will not be to your liking.
I however, enjoy it!
To end, I'll put a video of my favourite song off of the album, "Why Do You Only Call Me When Your High"
That's all folks!
Snood.
